Planted in the early decades of the 1900s by the second generation of the family, the vineyards are scattered around the town of Portela in 11 different parcels. Valdesil treats each parcel separately then ages the wine in foudres for 11 months. With a delightful touch of reduction, smokey aromas and a wild herbaceous character, it is a fresh and lively wine on the nose which leads to a serious, profound and stony palate. A little stone fruit bitterness brings some lift and a touch of bay leaf adds even more complexity.
