Tim Atkin:

Everyone accepts that 2020 was a difficult vintage in Rioja, but truly great winemakers always rise above the challenges of individual growing seasons. First made in 2013, La Condenada has slowly but surely established itself as one of Spain's most complex reds and this release is the best yet. Blending Tempranillo with 20% Graciano, Garnacha and Palomino, all planted in 1920 at 560 metres, this is rich, dense and purposeful, with lovely purity and perfume, very little wood, filigree tannins and juicy, yet structured blueberry, black cherry and strawberry fruit. 2025-40

The Wine Advocate:

As with other vintages, there is a plus of complexity and depth in the 2020 La Condenada, which mentions the Paraje Camino del Ciego from Baños de Ebro where the vineyard that names the wine is located, a 0.75-hectare plot . It's a little shy with faint floral aromas and a note reminiscent of cereals, undeveloped and needing to burn that baby fat with some more time in bottle. But the palate is phenomenal— textured and fine-grained with chalky tannins, fresh and vibrant, clean and precise with some acid berry flavors that make me salivate. This is going to develop nicely in bottle and for a long time.
