Likely to become a good heir to the icons of 19th century, with some post-modern touches. Aged in French oak, instead of American, with possibly riper fruit, strict site and grape selection and state-of-the-art science. Made to improve with long cellaring. Deep, intense blackberry aromas, liquorice and spice, very young. powerful but refined in palate, with finely grained tannins and a slow finish. A fine wine starting its way to greatness.

onsistently among the best reds in Rioja, this is a cuvée of Tempranillo and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter grape tolerated because it is of historical significance. Riscal's answer to a fine Médoc, it's a stylish, patrician red that combines concentration and finesse.
