El Puntido 2016

El Puntido comes from a 25-hectare vineyard in Laguardia that has organic certification. Picked a little later than stable mate La Nieta because of its higher elevation, this is another Eguren family red that benefited from the higher yields in 2016. Big, bold and dense, as it always is, but with lots of perfume, red and black fruits and winning freshness on the finish. 2022-31

Lots of blackberry, mushroom, and mahogany aromas follow through to a medium to full body with chocolate, walnut and berry. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

From a single vineyard of more limestone soils, the 2016 El Puntido is all Tempranillo brought up in French oak. It shows the more fresh, elegant style of the vintage nicely and offers brilliant cassis and blueberry fruits intermixed with lots cedar pencil, toasted spice, tobacco, and violet-like aromas and flavors. These carry to a medium to full-bodied red with notable purity of fruit, a good spine of acidity, and enough tannins to keep it evolving gracefully for 15 years or more.
