Picked at 105° Oechsle and without any botrytis, the 2018 Dhroner Grosser Hengelberg Riesling Auslese "Monopollage" (Gold Capsule) is pure and crunchy on the delicate nose. The palate is sweet and lush but also piquant and vital, with a nervy soul and purity that takes this lush, generously sweet wine into a long, salty-piquant finish. I'd keep it for a decade at least, but this 2018 will probably only shine in 20 years. There is too much sugar here for my personal taste (114 grams per liter), but you won't feel it that much in 2040. Stefan Steinmetz says the wine stopped the fermentation naturally. Tasted in March 2019.
