The Wine Advocate:

"The 2012 Salia has always been a Syrah-based blend from their lighter, clay-rich plots; since 2006, they have also given Garnacha Tintorera or Alicante Bouschet—a grape that has a long history in the region—a leading role in this blend. In 2012, the blend is something like 43% Syrah, 42% Garnacha Tintorera, 8% Touriga Nacional and 7% Garnacha. It fermented in open top vats with indigenous yeasts and was transferred to barrel immediately after fermentation finished for malolactic and ten months élevage. This is quite marked by the Garnacha Tintorera, which provides for a wild profile, with some rustic notes that reminded me of tree bark, licorice and leather, with a core of black fruit. It combines power with balance, a dusty texture and a dry finish, with refreshing acidity. It should develop more aromatic complexity, as it still shows pretty closed. 14,580 bottles produced."
