Suertes del Marqués Medianías 2016

The 2016 Medianías is a blend of Listán Negro from four vineyards, all between 100 and 200 years old and located at altitudes ranging between 350 and 550 meters altitude. It fermented with 10% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, but it aged in used 500-liter barrels and one new 4,500-liter oak vat for eight months. As with all the 2016s, they harvest it less ripe, and the use of oak and the different vineyards used resulted in a super fresh, sharper and more mineral version of Medianías. 2,300 bottles were filled in August 2017.

This shows how great old-vine listán from the Canary Islands can be! Fragrant, sour-cherry nose with subtle earthy undertones, then a super elegant palate with very fine tannins and a very long and polished, dry finish. Drink or hold.
