The 2019 Verdelho Original (neither Gouveio nor Verdejo—see last year's 2018 tasting note for more details on what that "Original" means) is an unoaked blend from three islands in the Azores. It is close to bone dry and comes in with 13.2% alcohol. A little unctuous in texture and easily able to match its acidity with good mid-palate concentration, it nonetheless has a fine burst of acidity that lifts the fruit and makes this wonderfully refreshing. Lively and fruity at the same time, this works great. We'll see how it ages, but it seems hard to resist this year. There were 21,501 bottles produced.
Produced from a native version of the Verdelho grape, this wine comes from the typical volcanic soil of the islands. It is rich and perfumed, with a great balance of acidity and soft pear and spice. The wine is smoothly textured and ready to drink.
