Vins Oblidats Escursac 2022

I love the simplicity, subtleness and elegance of the 2022 Vins Oblidats Escursac, a varietal from a rare grape recently recovered and still not approved by the appellations. It's a variety that keeps low alcohol (this has 12.5%, a rarity in a warm and dry year like 2022) and seems to be resistant to maladies. It comes from five-year-old vines, fermented with 50% uncrushed grapes with a short maceration and bottled unoaked. It's fruit-driven, fresh and clean with berry flavors and a polished mouthfeel, not terribly complex but very pleasant and easy to drink. 2,600 bottles were filled in February 2023.
