The 2016 Haura felt a little overdone on the nose, perhaps just a couple of vats of Merlot that ran away a little during fermetation? The palate is more structured and grippy in the mouth and yet it still suggests a slightly overlong extraction, leaving a little bitterness on the finish. The 2015 from this Pessac-Léognan was excellent, but I think the 2016 does not quite match up.
Still very dry and closed up, this hand-picked wine holds promise in its weight. Dark tannins dominate, masking hints of black fruits and rich berries. The wine, produced by Denis Dubourdieu Domaines, needs time, so wait until 2022.
