Château Lynch-Bages è il vino top della maison con lo stesso nome, di proprietà di Jean-Michel Cazes, classificato come quinto Grand Cru Classé nella classifica ufficiale del 1855. È un Bordeaux classico ed equilibrato che cerca l'eleganza nel classico blend della regione. L'annata 2022 è come la sua lavorazione, precisa e persistente. Un vino "ad alta definizione" e "impressionante", secondo Georgia Hindle, critica di Decanter, che lo descrive per le sue note floreali, la sua mineralità e un'acidità equilibrata che lo sosterrà per i prossimi decenni

Vigna e preparazione

Descrizione
Vigneto a sud e sud-ovest di Pauillac. La combinazione della barriera naturale formata dalla foresta delle Landes e la vicinanza dell'Oceano Atlantico e dell'estuario della Gironda influiscono molto sulla regolazione delle temperature nella zona, creando un microclima davvero particolare.

Raccolto
Vendemmia manuale dal 12 al 24 settembre. Il 70% del raccolto dello "château" è stato usato per fare questo vino. La prima selezione delle uve è stata fatta su tavoli mobili nel vigneto stesso.
Vinificazione
Appena arrivati nella zona di ricezione, le uve sono state diraspate e selezionate di nuovo a mano, per la terza volta, su tavoli vibranti. Successivamente, per gravità, sono passati prima in mini-vasche da sette ettolitri e poi in ogni serbatoio senza bisogno di pompaggio. Adattamento preciso del processo di vinificazione alla mappatura intraparcellare del vigneto in 80 vasche isoterme coniche di nuova generazione con controllo individuale della temperatura e pompe appositamente adattate alle operazioni di rimontaggio che facilitano l'estrazione dei tannini.
Invecchiamento
Affinamento per 18 mesi in botti di rovere francese (il 75% nuove).

A terrific Lynch from a hot vintage with blackcurrants, mint, dried lavender, graphite and thyme on the nose and palate. Medium- to full-bodied, it shows fantastic tannins with a lovely texture that reminds me of cashmere, becoming slightly chewy in the finish. Give this four to five years of bottle age. Try after 2028.

Decanter:

Blackcurrant and bramble fruit with savoury herbal nuances on the nose, this smells rich and potent. Tense and focussed, compact from the get go, present tannins give grip and hold. This is definitely not out to charm, more serious, stern and focussed but there's such overall precision. This is in high definition, supremely controlled and well worked with mouthfilling ripe tannins. I like the chewy aspect and there’s balancing acidity, hidden now by the density, that will sustain the wine for decades to come. Floral notes and some minerality come through giving the nuance so it’s not all heft, but there’s clear muscle on show. A long finish gives the sense of structure and style. An impressive wine. 95 IPT. 3.71pH. Ageing 18 months, 75% new oak. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 4.1 g/L total acidity. Harvest 12 September - 24 September.

Falstaff:

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Delicate leather and nougat, hints of mint and cassis, black forest berries in the background, orange zest. Juicy palate, complex, blackberries, ripe cherries, some nougat, ripe, supporting tannins, mineral and long lasting, certain ageing potential.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2022 Lynch-Bages is one of the most muscular, chunky wines of the vintage in the Médoc, offering up aromas of dark berries, cherry preserve, pencil shavings and creamy new oak, followed by a full-bodied, rich and extracted palate that's dense and blocky. While Lynch-Bages always seems to come together with time, the 2022 is certainly going to require some patience.
