Challao 2019

2019 was a lot drier and warmer than 2020, and the only wine they produced in 2019 is the 2019 Challao, which benefits from one extra year in bottle and is showing some development and complexity and traditional Rioja typicity. It has a contained 13% alcohol and more integrated acidity; it is polished and has a velvety palate with very fine and chalky tannins. It matured in 500-liter oak barrels for a total of 24 months—10 months for each plot separately, and then they blended it and put it back in barrel for a further 14 months. Only 530 bottles and some larger formats were filled in September 2021.
