Il Pago Valdebellón, fatto interamente d , viene da un terreno povero e calcareo con una consistenza limosa che ha un microclima speciale. Questa varietà ha trovato una bella seconda casa in questa abbazia, visto i risultati che dà ogni anno. L'annata 2016 è molto complessa e intensa, con tante sfumature intense che si sentono grazie al carattere di quest'uva.

I vigneti, che si trovano a Sardón de Duero (Valladolid), si estendono sui pendii esposti a nord, fino a un'altitudine di 850 metri.

Clima
I mesi autunnali, invernali e primaverili sono stati molto piovosi e freddi, causando un ritardo nella germogliazione. I mesi estivi sono stati caldi e secchi, permettendo di avanzare con il ciclo, che era molto in ritardo. L'invaiatura è iniziata all'inizio di agosto per i vitigni precoci e tra i 10 e i 15 giorni dopo per le altre varietà. Le alte temperature hanno causato un forte stress idrico alle piante e settembre è stato il mese più caldo mai registrato ad Abadia Retuerta.

Valdebellón and Negralada, their single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, respectively, are released as part of their Añadas Históricas library release of selected wines. The 2016 Pago Valdebellón, despite the higher yields and more elegant wines, still reached 15% alcohol, but it also has more freshness and acidity and comes through as lively and young-ish. It matured in barrel for 16 months. There is some evolution here; this wine and the 2015 show a metallic twist, but it's subtler here, with notes of brick dust and something oily and reminiscent of olives. The palate is polished, and the tannins have been resolved. I wouldn't keep it for much longer. In 2025, they are releasing 1,100 bottles. It was bottled in May 2018. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Blackcurrants, blackberries, tobacco, dried herbs, ink and bitter chocolate on the nose. It’s full-bodied, ripe and intense with firm, fine tannins. Compact and supple with excellent length. Drink now or hold.
