The 2019 Estereo is an unusual red I had only tasted once before from the 2016 vintage. It’s a blend of 50% of their Syrah from Méntrida and 50% Espadeiro from Rías Baixas. The wines fermented in open-top 500-liter oak barrels and matured in those barrels for one year. The bottled wine is 13.5% alcohol and has balanced acidity. This is only the second time they made this wine; the other one was in 2016. Here, the aromatics of the Syrah dominate the nose, very much like Malpaso, with olives, balsam, aromatic herbs, bacon fat and a smoky twist, but the palate has the zippy acidity of the Espadeiro, which makes it more vibrant and lively. A strange creature but very pleasant. This is 2019, and it's still young; it should be long lived. 1,900 bottles were filled in December 2020.
