Profumo
Dominano i frutti neri maturi e carnosi come la ciliegia, con note agrumate di arancia rossa insieme a sentori di linfa e aromi complessi.
Bocca
Vino rosso intenso, potente, con tannini delicati, abbastanza compatti da vestire elegantemente il frutto, riempire il palato e finire con un finale persistente. Le note minerali, quasi calcaree, alla fine mantengono l'energia del vino.
Temperatura di servizio
Si consiglia di servirlo a 16 °C.

Vigna e preparazione

Descrizione
I vigneti più vecchi, vicini al castello e al villaggio di Margaux, nella famosa Terrasse 4, sono dove nasce il grande vino della cantina. Dal 2017, tutta la proprietà è coltivata seguendo un approccio biologico.
Suolo
Povero, con un drenaggio naturale che aiuta le radici della vite ad andare in profondità, e fatto da un sacco di ghiaia sepolta sotto una sottile tonalità di argilla.
Clima
Un'annata intensa, caratterizzata da un inverno secco con gelate notturne all'inizio di aprile, seguita da una primavera e un'estate in cui il caldo e le alte temperature si sono fatti sentire, anche se in quest'ultima stagione ci sono stati alcuni temporali. L'autunno soleggiato e sereno ha permesso un raccolto secco.
Rendimento
30 ettolitri per ettaro.
Raccolto
Vendemmiare fatto a mano dal 16 al 28 settembre (Cabernet sauvignon), tra il 2 e il 15 dello stesso mese (Merlot) e il 16 per il Petit verdot.
Vinificazione
Separatamente per appezzamento e anche all'interno dello stesso appezzamento in deposito di acciaio inox a temperatura controllata e con fermentazione per gravità.
Invecchiamento
Affinamento di 18 mesi in botti di rovere francese, di cui il 50% nuove.

This château has been firing on all cylinders of late, no doubt due to the talents of technical director Nicolas Audebert, and a wine that's going to flirt with perfection is their 2022 Château Rauzan-Ségla. Powerful notes of black cherries, currants, smoked tobacco, chocolate, and leafy herbs all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered, concentrated texture, ripe yet building tannins, and a great finish. This is a legit great wine that's going to rival the 2010, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2020.

Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with walnuts and hints of tar that follow through to a medium to full body with plush and velvety tannins and a lovely, caressing mouthfeel. It closes up at the end. Extremely long, pure and structured. Classic 72% cabernet sauvignon, 26% merlot and 2% petit verdot. From organically grown grapes. Give this at least until after 2030 to open and come around.

The 2022 Rauzan-Ségla is showing well in bottle, unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with licorice, burning embers and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, ample and velvety, it's suave and seamless, with its dense core of fruit framed by powdery structuring tannins that lend a more evident backbone than it exhibited en primeur. As readers may remember, the 2022 is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot; and in 2022, the east-facing sides of the vines, which see the afternoon sun, were picked separately, along with anything that showed signs of stress.
