Coupage bordolese con Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot e Cabernet Franc. È il primo vino di questa cantina, a 15 km da Bordeaux, nel cuore della denominazione Pessac-Léognan. Secondo quanto assicurato dallo château, l'annata 2020 segue la linea intensa delle precedenti 2018 e 2019, rivelando l'evoluzione dello stile della cantina "verso un'espressione più distintiva iniziata nel 2016". I primi assaggi dalla botte rivelano aromi esuberanti di kirsch e frutti neri in composta con un tocco di cannella e chiodi di garofano macinati, tannini lussuosi e un finale lungo e speziato.&nbsp

Profumo
Si distinguono delicate note di frutti neri (ribes nero, mora) e frutti rossi succosi.
Bocca
Morbido, opulento ed equilibrato. L'espressione del frutto è precisa, guidata dalla generosità del Merlot e rafforzata dall'eleganza e dalla freschezza del Cabernet Franc, che conferisce eleganza e dalla delicata struttura tannica del Cabernet Sauvignon.

Clima
La vendemmia del 2020 è stata la più precoce degli ultimi 10 anni. L'inverno mite e piovoso ha fatto crescere le vigne tre settimane prima del previsto (intorno al 9 marzo), ma una gelata il 27 marzo ha danneggiato le viti, il che spiega in gran parte le basse rese. La siccità e le alte temperature di luglio e agosto hanno messo a dura prova anche la resistenza delle viti. Queste condizioni hanno costretto ad anticipare di tre settimane la vendemmia, quando le uve erano ormai perfettamente mature.

Raccolto
La vendemmia manuale è stata fatta dal 7 al 29 settembre con condizioni climatiche super buone.
Vinificazione
Le bacche del raccolto 2020 erano particolarmente piccole e con poco succo. Per estrarre delicatamente tutto il loro colore e i tannini, è stata fatta solo una pigiatura, le temperature di vinificazione sono state abbassate e i tempi di macerazione sono stati notevolmente ridotti.
Invecchiamento
L'invecchiamento dei Cabernet avviene principalmente in barrique nuove di rovere francese leggermente riscaldate, mentre i Merlot vengono messi soprattutto in anfore per mantenere il loro carattere fruttato e la loro morbida rotondità.

Lots of blue fruits, spring flowers, candied orange, and exotic fruit notes emerge from the 2020 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion, a medium to full-bodied, floral, exotic, incredibly pure wine that opens up nicely with time in the glass. Possessing bright tannins, good overall concentration, and exceptional balance, this beautiful Pessac-Léognan will require just 4-5 years of bottle age to be drinkable and cruise for two decades.

Barrel Sample. A smoothly textured wine that only slowly reveals its tannins that enhance the wine's richness and density while also bringing out perfumed blackberry fruits. The wine has balance and structure and plenty of aging potential.

Aromas of black cherries and currants with cloves and licorice, some dark chocolate and wet earth. Medium-bodied with an array of ripe, juicy tannins and a chalky texture. Vivid and succulent with dark fruits and a polished finish. Hints of nut shell and iodine at the end. Try after 2024.

The 2020 Larrivet Haut-Brion bursts with aromas of red berries, vine smoke, orange rind and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and complete palate built around powdery tannins and vibrant fruit flavors. The team employed some whole bunch for their old vine Cabernet Franc this year, and the results are excellent. This is an impressively vibrant, harmonious wine from this address.

Decanter:

Well worked aromatics, expressive while still being subtle. Great location just down the road from Haut-Bailly, this has plenty of power through the core of the wine with dark fruits, rosemary and sage spices - good quality. Shuts down on the finish a little. A yield of 28hl/ha, 100% new oak for Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, and entirely amphora for the Merlots. Tasted twice. Drinking Window 2025-2040.
