Descrizione

Nel 1987 è uscita la prima annata di questo iconico Saint-Émilion, che è davvero fantastico, memorabile e intramontabile. Da quando Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoalented ha preso in mano le Cantine, ha avuto un grande successo e ha portato questo secondo vino a livelli altissimi. Un vino che riceve sempre ottimi voti dai critici. Una meraviglia a un prezzo accessibile.

Seducente, profumato e intenso. Ha aromi di ribes nero e ciliegia nera insieme a note speziate, floreali e di grafite.

Fermentazione in serbatoi di acciaio tronco-conici capovolti a una temperatura di 28 °C. Macerazione post-fermentativa a 28-30 °C per 1-3 settimane.

Affinamento di 16 mesi in botti nuove di rovere francese (60% nuove).

James Suckling:

Aromas of fresh herbs, such a basil and lemon grass, come through here, together with blackberries, dark plums and some orange peel. Medium-boded with medium, velvety tannins that provide layers and a polished texture. It's long and creamy with lovely fruit at the end. A beautiful wine with a pretty structure, too. Drinkable now, but better after 2027.

Falstaff:

Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle rim brightening. Floral, candied purple fruit, black cherries, some coconut, subtle hints of mint, some lime. Juicy, very elegant, fine extracted sweetness, ripe cherry fruit, mineral and long lasting, savoury finish, some nougat on the back palate.

Decanter:

Scented red berries on the nose, creamy, floral, perfumed, juicy and fresh, with savoury herbal aspects too. Sleek and so refined, this is fresh and captivating but with weight and density. Mouthwatering acidity gives the life and the spark straight away, with firm but fresh and cool tannins supporting the fruit, present but not too much, giving the frame and the nuance. Tannin management is excellent with blue fruits, liquorice and subtle sweet tobacco notes. Bright, shining and sleek, this is both juicy and layered, mineral and fruity, while retaining freshness and bite. Leaves a lingering impression and has great ageing potential.

The Wine Advocate:

Based on Merlot from the cool, clay-limestone terroirs of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, the 2022 Le Carillon d'Angélus offers up aromas of sweet berries, plums, orange zest, cigar wrapper and creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and dense, with lively acids, sweet tannins and a gently lactic finish.
