Siamo a Pauillac, una zona perfetta per fare grandi vini. L'annata 2021 di Château Lafite Rothschild è fatta soprattutto con Cabernet sauvignon. Al naso ha gli aromi affumicati intensi tipici di questo vitigno. È un vino complesso e profondo, ma allo stesso tempo ben equilibrato, con una vivace acidità e tannini morbidi, tipici di Lafite.

Vigna e preparazione

Descrizione
Château Lafite Rothschild si trova a nord della denominazione Pauillac, al confine con Saint Estèphe.
Il vigneto ha tre zone principali: i pendii che circondano lo Château, l'altopiano di Carruades a ovest e 4,5 ettari nella denominazione Saint Estèphe.

Suolo
Ghiaia mista a sabbia eolica su un terreno calcareo di origine terziaria, con un ottimo drenaggio e un'esposizione al sole perfetta.
Vinificazione
La fermentazione alcolica avviene a temperatura controllata con rimontaggi regolari per estrarre delicatamente tutti i composti fenolici. La macerazione dura circa 22 giorni.
Dopo la fermentazione malolattica, i vini vengono messi in botti di rovere francese. Lafite ha la sua tonnellerie a Pauillac, la Tonellerie de Domaines, che dà uno stile unico ai suoi vini. Si assaggia il contenuto di ogni botte e solo le migliori vengono scelte per l'assemblaggio finale.
Invecchiamento
Invecchiamento in botti di rovere francese per 15 mesi.

Polished and refined with a firm, fine and linear tannin structure. Harmonious. Perfumed violets, roses and subtle licorice. All in balance here, with precise layers of black fruit, minerals and pencil lead. Rather seamless. Firm, yet fine and sleek to the end. Very classy. Fine-velvet texture. 96% cabernet sauvignon, 3% merlot and 1% petit verdot.

To my palate, the 2021 Lafite Rothschild has emerged as the finest of the Pauillac first growths this year. Wafting from the glass with aromas of dark minty berries mingled with notions of iris, licorice and cigar box, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a velvety attack that segues into an elegantly dense and structured mid-palate that's nicely framed by sweet but abundant tannins, concluding with a long, penetrating finish.

Wine Enthusiast:

This wine is the essence of Bordeaux Cabernet. Dominated by this variety at 96%, it exudes tannins and black-currant fruits. Structure is all there, backed by acidity. It is a wine for serious aging. Drink at the earliest from 2028.

Falstaff:

Bright ruby. The nose is subtle and profound, initially very restrained, needing some time, but opening up with every minute, becoming increasingly floral, a noble perfume—never intrusive, yet with great complexity, mineral nuances, and rather bright fruit. The palate is straight and slender—what precision! The wine has plenty of structure, shows breed and finesse, highly elegant, with fine-grained, still youthful tannins and razor-sharp acidity. The fruit is crisp, perfectly ripe, and lingers long on the finish. This is a dancing, finely structured Lafite, very classic! 2030–2055+
