Vigneto a nord della denominazione Pauillac, al confine con Saint-Estèphe. Ha un ottimo drenaggio e un'esposizione al sole perfetta.

Raccolto
Vendemmiare fatto a mano dal 31 agosto al 24 settembre. Per fare l'annata 2022 del "grand vin" hanno usato solo il 40% dell'uva raccolta.
Vinificazione
Si fa con estrema precisione. La distribuzione dell'uva in botti di legno, acciaio inossidabile e cemento dipende dalle caratteristiche di ogni appezzamento e dal grado di maturazione dell'uva. La fermentazione alcolica avviene a temperatura controllata con rimontaggi periodici per estrarre delicatamente tutti i composti fenolici. Ogni tino viene monitorato attentamente e ogni giorno si fanno degustazioni per capire quando è il momento giusto per il travaso. Il periodo di macerazione dura circa 22 giorni. Dopo la fermentazione malolattica, i vini vengono trasferiti in botti di rovere francese. Lafite ha una propria bottaia a Pauillac, la Tonelería de Domaines, che contribuisce allo stile unico dei suoi vini. Il contenuto di ogni botte viene degustato e solo i migliori vengono selezionati per l'assemblaggio finale.
Invecchiamento
Invecchiamento tra i 18 e i 20 mesi in botti di rovere francese, tutte nuove al 100%.

In bottle, the 2022 Lafite Rothschild has turned out even better than I anticipated. Wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, minty blackcurrants, violets and cigar box, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and suave, with a deep, enveloping core of lively fruit, beautifully refined tannins, and a long, perfumed finish. Even at this early stage, it's remarkably integrated and harmonious, and it's certainly the most elegant of the first growths this year, reminding me of a modern-day version of Lafite's magical 1953.

James Suckling:

A benchmark modern Lafite showing tobacco, orange peel, cedar, pencil shavings, violets and cigar box—so perfumed. Medium-bodied with lots of graphite, stone and hints of redcurrants on the palate. It goes on for minutes. Reminds me of Lafites that I love made decades ago. Could be the great 1986. A blend of 94% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Best after 2030 but already fascinating.

This is a magnificent wine with a dark chocolate aroma and great complexity and density. Its power and solid tannins along with black plum flavors are long-lasting as will be the wine. Drink from 2029.

The 2022 Château Lafite-Rothschild is based on 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot that was harvested between the 31st of August and the 24th of September. It's a richer, more opulent wine compared to the more classic 2020 (although the pH is higher in the 2020) and has a deep, full-bodied, concentrated profile as well as classic Lafite aromatics of spicy red and black fruits, freshly sharpened pencils, graphite, and tobacco. Deep, rich, and concentrated, it nevertheless stays pure and flawlessly balanced, with ample, ripe tannins and a great finish. It's going to have some up-front appeal by Lafite standards but should still require a decade of bottle age. Director Eric Koher compares this to the 2005, but this modern-day clone of the 1959 is one of the most powerful, concentrated Lafites I've tasted.
