Ogni anno, questo mito di Margaux viene celebrato dai critici più famosi. Come tutti i grandi vini bordolesi, promette un'evoluzione in bottiglia davvero brillante. Anche se l'annata 2024 è stata un po' difficile a causa delle piogge abbondanti e della peronospora, il meticoloso processo di assemblaggio e l'esperienza vinicola della cantina sono riusciti a portare questa annata alla sua quintessenza. Il critico di La Revue du Vin de France, Olivier Poels, lo considera uno dei vini più completi della campagna en primeur. Strutturato, pieno di frutta esplosiva, verticale, con tensione, ultrapreciso e molto succoso.

Marittimo. Il 2024 è stato un anno intenso, con quasi il doppio delle piogge rispetto alla media degli ultimi dieci anni. Questo ha fatto sì che i primi segni di peronospora si vedessero già il 22 aprile, e questa pressione ha richiesto un'attenzione costante da parte di tutti i team di viticoltura delle Cantine. Il problema ha colpito soprattutto le viti più vecchie di Merlot. L'estate ha portato una piccola tregua di due mesi senza pioggia, fino al ritorno delle piogge torrenziali che hanno anticipato il vendemmiare. Alla fine, però, il raccolto ha ripagato tutti gli sforzi fatti in vigna. La maturazione delle uve, insieme alla precisione della selezione, ha dato un'uva di qualità e molto aromatica e, durante le degustazioni, i tannini erano pieni di potenziale.

Vendemmiare fatto a mano dal 25 settembre al 10 ottobre 2024. Solo il 40% del raccolto di quest'anno a Château Palmer è stato usato per fare il loro "grand vin".

Invecchiamento previsto in botti di rovere francese per il primo anno, poi in foudres.

Le château a produit 5 000 caisses du grand vin en 2024. C’est un Palmer extrêmement séduisant, structuré, au fruit explosif. L’assemblage contient un peu plus de cabernet qu’à l’habitude, ce qui le rend très séveux, vertical, tendu, mais aussi diablement juteux et ultra précis dans ses contours. Un des vins les plus complets du millésime. (Olivier Poels)

James Suckling:

Excellent depth and good purity of fruit, showing lots of blackcurrants, dark minerals and violet extract. Full-bodied, this has plenty of fine-grained tannins and a hallmark Palmer tannin structure and framework. Quite tight and juicy at the end with a lasting finish and lots of volume. 13.2% alcohol.

Tim Atkin:

Already some spices from the sweet oak, and with the restrained power of its sibling underneath. Rich floral and thyme scents. This is very accomplished, with just the tiniest amount of the signature Thomas Duroux 'fauve' savoury edge with notes of herbs and garrigue. This vintage is all about how the fruit can survive the structure however, so the balance has been well struck. A great effort in the vintage.

Falstaff:

Dark ruby, toffee core, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Delicate herbal savouriness, some cherry and liquorice, blackberry confit, a hint of nougat, multi- faceted bouquet. Full-bodied, elegant, dark berry fruit, structured, pronounced in fruit, mineral and long-lasting, ripe, supporting tannins, measured by the vintage to be described as a grandiose mastered wine. Vinous:

The 2024 Palmer is wonderfully vivid and expressive. Strong Cabernet Sauvignon inflections make a strong first impression. Blue/purplish fruit, gravel, lavender, incense, licorice and dried herbs all jump from the glass. I imagine the 2024 will drink well on release, which is uncharacteristic for young Palmer. Readers will find a gorgeous wine with tons of character and pedigree to burn. Palmer remains one of the most distinctive wines in all of Bordeaux. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2024 Palmer is shaping up beautifully and stands out as one of the wines of the vintage in the Médoc. Wafting from the glass with aromas of crème de cassis, plums, cigar wrapper and iris, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with good depth at the core, sweet structuring tannins and a long, precise finish. Uniting charm with seriousness, this blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot is the quintessential Palmer. Yields after sorting worked out at 22 hectoliters per hectare. (William Kelley)
