Morbido e corposo, i suoi tannini potenti, eleganti e ben integrati gli conferiscono un’energia accattivante. Le note di grafite e affumicate gli donano una complessità e una profondità notevoli, mentre i sentori di nocciola tostata e granelli di cacao persistono nel finale.

Vigna e preparazione

Descrizione
Vigneti piantati su collinette (da cui il nome dello “château”) in una stretta fascia lunga 80 chilometri e larga da 5 a 10 chilometri vicino al fiume Gironda, che garantisce loro riserve idriche in profondità. La tenuta confina a nord con la foresta delle Landes, che funge da barriera protettiva attenuando le temperature, rese comunque più moderate dall’influenza del fiume. La tenuta gode di condizioni naturali eccezionali, dalla qualità dei suoi terreni alla sua esposizione ideale e all’esposizione al sole.

Clima
L'inverno mite e piovoso ha permesso alle viti di crescere bene. Il 2023 è stato uno degli anni più caldi mai registrati finora, con una fioritura perfetta a fine maggio e due ondate di caldo a fine agosto e inizio settembre che hanno segnato l'inizio della vendemmia. Le condizioni meteorologiche instabili hanno permesso alle uve di maturare bene e l’ultima settimana di settembre ha regalato un sole estivo per concludere la vendemmia.

A deep and generous red with red and black currants, black truffles and blue fruit. Full-bodied and spicy but still in balance. Luscious and flamboyant, then it tightens at the end. The fruit is very transparent and verges on exotic. but then it holds back with the tannins. It's so velvety and integrated. It changes all the time in the glass. 93% cabernet sauvignon and 7% merlot. Best after 2030.

Decanter:

Gorgeous red and black fruit on the nose, really fruit-forward and expressive, not so much on the mineral or floral side. Smooth and supple, this has great movement: a sense of life, depth and richness, so suave. The fruit and tannins fill the mouth, but with delightful coolness – blueberry and crisp cherry. Liquorice and wet stones also come through; graphite, chalk, mint, a touch of toast on the finish. Flashes of exoticism, as well as finesse. Structure and seriousness but with bounce, full of texture and nuance. Stylish and characterful, a wonderful Mouton.

The 2023 Mouton Rothschild unwinds in the glass with a rich bouquet of dark berries, cedar box, cigar wrapper and violets, framed by a generous application of toasty oak. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with a broad attack and a deep, layered, ample mid-palate, it's a fleshy, muscular wine, built around youthfully chalky tannins that will reward some bottle age.
