Clunia Syrah 2014

I cannot say that I found much varietal character in the 2014 Syrah. It is produced from grapes planted in 1999 at high altitude somewhere in Castilla León (the winery is in Coruña del Conde in the province of Burgos). It fermented in stainless steel and aged in oak barrels for one year. But the wine is ripe, clean, modern and pleasant, slowly developing some shy violet aromas as it sat in the glass. It has a velvety texture and fine tannins, good balance and freshness, quite tasty and pleasant overall. 21,121 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2016. - Luis Gutiérrez.
