The 2015 Malabrigo matured in French oak barrels for 18 months. It is a powerful wine from a concentrated vintage, with a tendency to close up, and it shows a little backward and with a faintly reductive character—they tell me that's because they use 100% French oak. I found more impact from the élevage here than in the rest of the range, and the wine comes through toasty, spicy and smoky. The palate reveals plenty of tannins and a faintly astringent finish. This might need more time in bottle and/or powerful food. 8,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2018.
