Descrizione

Aalto PS ( Parcelle Seleccionadas) è il vino più speciale della cantina. Lo fanno solo quando la vendemmia è davvero top. È fatto con una doppia selezione di uve che vengono da piccole parcelle o singoli vigneti.

Un rosso della Ribera da collezione che rappresenta molto bene il carattere della Ribera del Duero. Questa annata è stata classificata come Molto Buona dal Consiglio Regolatore.

Vigna e preparazione

Descrizione
Vigneti piantati in parcelle uniche a La Horra e La Aguilera.
Età
Viti vecchie coltivate in alberello, con età tra i 60 e i 90 anni.
Clima
Continental. L'anno agricolo è iniziato con un deficit idrico rispetto alla stagione precedente. L'autunno è stato caratterizzato da temperature miti e scarse precipitazioni. Il 2022 è iniziato con temperature più alte del normale. Solo a metà gennaio c'è stato un brusco calo delle temperature notturne, con forti gelate e mezzogiorni soleggiati. Tra gennaio e febbraio le piogge sono state molto scarse. Marzo si è chiuso con tempo instabile, fresco e qualche pioggia che ha aiutato a ridurre la siccità. La primavera è iniziata con un calo delle temperature che ha ritardato la germogliazione. A metà maggio c'è stata un'ondata di caldo con temperature fino a 30 °C. Giugno e luglio sono stati intensi, caratterizzati da intense ondate di caldo, senza piogge, diventando i mesi più caldi da quando si registrano i dati.
Raccolto
Vendemmiare fatto a mano in cassette da 15 chili e con una selezione, grappolo per grappolo, in cantina. È iniziata all'inizio di settembre 2022.
Invecchiamento
Invecchiamento di 20 mesi in barrique nuove di rovere francese.

A rich, deep and complex nose with plenty of wood spices, dark chocolate, fresh blackberries, violets and a touch of graphite. The highlight on the full-bodied palate is the quality and quantity of the tannins, which are massive but polished and dissolved. Really firm and long. Better from 2026, when the wood spices settle more.

The Wine Advocate:

There's always a little bit more of everything in the PS compared with the regular Aalto. The 2022 PS, cropped from a very warm and dry year, is not only more powerful and tannic but also more balanced and elegant, in that Castilian rustic way. It comes in at 15% alcohol and packs a punch; it's generously oaked (it spent 20 months in new French oak barrels), creamy, toasty and smoky and leaves a dry, chalky sensation in the finish. This is very much for the fans of the style. It's powerful and concentrated with abundant oak. 35,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2024. (Luis Gutiérrez)

PS retails at nearly three times the price of the regular Aalto release, and uses grapes from the contrasting villages of La Aguilera, La Horra and Baños de Valdearados. Inky, powerful, concentrated and lavishly wooded in 100% new oak, this is a wine that's constructed for the long haul, like a Bordeaux First Growth, with layers of dark chocolate, fig and damson and muscular tannins. 2027-40.

Decanter:

Very perfumed, with aromas of black forest fruit, candied cherries, chocolate and coffee beans. Powdery tannins frame the palate, with its intense black cherry fruit at the core. The finish is long and savoury. Luscious and youthful, this will benefit from a few more years in bottle.
